A bookstore where people go to eat and drink

Sounds unexpected? Indeed, Telliskivi Creative City might be the only place where you can find a bookstore that is a serious restaurant at the same time (or vice versa?). The shop-restaurant, which opened two years ago, was remarkable at the beginning in that it had both a wide selection of books and an extremely long and varied food menu. Things continued to develop rapidly as if in a well-written book and at a time when restaurants everywhere in Estonia closed down, the bookstore restaurant expanded to at least twice the size. The long food menu and the short drinks menu exchanged parts, and Literaat now has a vinoteque-level wine list, a cocktail menu with literary names and a practical food menu of well-known and popular dishes. As a result, the twice as big restaurant has three times as many people as before. The milieu is like a reading room in the library, where in addition to reading, you are also allowed to eat, drink and discuss the latest news aloud with your neighbours. Anyone who hasn’t been here probably can’t be considered a cultured person. We shall see if next year adds another new and exciting chapter to Literaat’s story.
