Champagne. Oysters. Prelude

18. June 2021

Prelude pererahvas Ülle Kiirend ja Margus Metstak. / Prelude family Ülle Kiirend and Margus Metstak.

It doesn’t sound like a good idea to order oysters and champagne on the home island of smoked eel and good beer, does it? Well, in fact, it all depends on how they are offered. If you decide to start with some oysters and a glass of champagne in Prelude, but the wine shop happens to quiet, and the family has time to tell you more about both, then… It is likely that you will not get around to trying anything else. Because the selection of both oysters and sparkling wines is vast, and the family’s knowledge about them is endless.

Those who insist on sticking to local delicacies while at Saaremaa must try the eel soup and vodka. If you want a little from here and a little from there, then go for Saaremaa fish with wine from the other end of Europe – Portugal. Vegetarians also have options, including a black bean cutlet accompanied by a wine worthy of its name Cosmic.

10 years ago, the idea of a wine shop in Saaremaa was considered not just bad but rather crazy. Now it is hard to imagine going to Kuressaare without stopping by Prelude.
