Restaurant Von Taube is located in historic Purtse fortress residence. Outside the fortress a large pile of firewood and a smoking barbecue oven give clues about the menu. Inside, the massive dining hall is decorated with equally massive wooden tables and leather-covered chairs. Purtse brewery beer from next door is on tap and loud hard rock music puts a finishing touch to the ambience.
Rustic surroundings call for rustic food. A fair bit of horseradish lends a crude note to the soft flavours of creamy fish soup, while the beef carpaccio is seasoned to be full-on fiery. Braised wild boar is already a “primitive” food in itself. They say that the food portions have been reduced at the request of the guests. You wouldn’t think so looking at your plate!
