The gastrobar Tartar menu starts with ten different tartars and carpaccio’s. Their names are creative, just like the dishes. Matryoshka is beef tartar with salmon roe, seasoned with horseradish cream, mustard and gherkins. The geography of different flavours is vast, from Tallinn to Tokyo and Italy to Mexico. A lot of imagination has been used in mixing together all the different ingredients.
Two or three different tartars are the right amount for one meal, and you don’t necessarily have to look for other dishes on the menu. That is how different these tartars are from each other. The drink list begins with beers, followed by champagnes. Unusual order that makes sense because both pair with the tartars delightfully. Among the beers, the house lager has the silkiest flavour.
Don’t take the recommendation to only eat the tartars too literally. The founder of the gastrobar, Andrei Shmakov, is known and acclaimed worldwide as a chef. Tartar is worth visiting at least as many times as it takes to try every item on the menu.
