Riviera Palais Brasserie is an ambitious newcomer among Tallinn restaurants. Due to the climate, the comparison of the Baltic Sea with the French Riviera seems very inappropriate. However, after trekking up the stairs to the former Orlov castle and then looking back from the terrace towards the bay, the Riviera impression is sure to appear. Monuments from the Estonian socialist era in the backyard of the castle might seem odd, but the castle is now a history museum.
Many have tried and failed to find a restaurant concept that would suit these eclectic surroundings and the recently opened brasserie finally seems to have got it right. French-inspired food is served in a timeless ambience with live music adding to the mood every Friday night. Thursdays are for wine tasting and weekends for brunch.
Such a lively social calendar is not very typical of Tallinn’s restaurants, it is rather reminiscent of the Riviera lifestyle. Also, you will find fresh oysters, a French charcuterie plate, scallops and foie gras on the first lines of the menu and the drinks list has as many different champagnes as the brasseries on the real Riviera.
