The bright yellow kebab stand in the paradise of good flavours at the Baltic Station Market is not just another kebab stand. Fast and convenient food is offered here by a variety of kitchens and merchants. Yet it seems that only those who fancy a kebab have to account for a waiting time comparable to a decent restaurant. Elsewhere, the queues are not very noticeable.
The boom for kebabs has been caused by Andrei Lesment, a man who spent a couple of decades working in some of London’s better restaurants. He has returned to Tallinn and is now developing a small restaurant empire here. His Kaja Pizza Köök is among the 50 best in the world, and One Sixty is a favourite among motorcycle and heavy rock fans. A trip across town just for Kebaboom is not considered excessive. The secret to Andrei’s immensely flavourful kebabs is simple – you have to learn from the best in the world. The skills for making the best kebabs in Tallinn were acquired in Berlin. But just like there, convenience food in Tallinn should be conveniently available nearby, not just in one place in the city. Therefore, a Kebaboom kebab boom is expected soon in other places in Tallinn and other Estonian cities.
