Tokyo a’la Tallinn

Kampai is not a Japanese restaurant, Kampai is a tiny Tokyo on the Noblessner dock. This is what the the restaurant promises and delivers with a menu that includes everything the Tokyo restaurant scene has to offer, from street food to author’s cuisine. Ever since head chef Hide Hirakata moved to Estonia he has been passionately representing authentic Japanese food culture, while owner Indrek Kasela is, among other things, an international seafood merchant. Together they form a great team for making their non-traditional restaurant appealing for the crowds. This is not an easy task, as Tallinn does not exactly have the Tsukiji fish market, but from time to time the duo does manage to source seafood of comparable quality and these lucky days are celebrated with special degustations. On days when the seafood options are less exciting, you can count on their ramen, which is the most rich and flavourful example of the dish in all of Tallinn.
