Jahu resto is right next to the best and most well-known market in Tallinn, Balti Jaama Market, but it is surprisingly hard to find. It is almost hidden in the building that houses a bathroom specialist store. This odd location is divisive – some people would rather not eat a meal next to bath tubs and sinks, while others think it adds character and makes the restaurant fit in with the hipster neighbourhood.
One thing that is clear to everyone is the concept of the restaurant – everything important is made of flour, which turns out to be an incredibly versatile ingredient and does not get boring. For example the shapes of pasta made in-house change so frequently that you could consider this restaurant a pasta school. Making pizza dough is considered rocket science and a million tiny nuances are carefully controlled. The scientific approach yields delicious results that are clearly distinguishable from the competition and make it worth travelling here from further afield, going straight past other pasta and pizza places you will likely encounter on the way.
Every dish goes perfectly with Jahu beer, which is a collaboration between the restaurant and a local brewery. If beer is not your beverage of choice, they also offer a small selection of rare wines, which changes as quickly as the selection of pasta.
