The Restaurant at the Cultural Centre

Cultural centre(s) are part and parcel of Estonian towns, but for some reason, food culture remains an outcast in most of them. In general, you’d rather eat elsewhere. Viljandi provides a pleasant exception. The Harmoonia is located in a corner of the Sakala Centre. The windowless dining hall is brought to life by soft lighting and live fire. The background music, soft and slightly melancholic, reflects the Estonian character. The Harmoonia serves Estonian food culture’s characteristic dishes, with the small smoking oven in the backyard central to their preparation. The wine selection is good, well above the Estonian average. After all, the Harmoonia is the spot of choice of the Viljandi Wine Club. It is customary to end the meal with a cup of herbal tea.
