UNIQUE CASTLE RESTAURANT
The restaurants near Tallinn offer countless excuses to skip town for a day. The Keila-Joa Schloss Fall’s siren song is the loudest. The thought of eating (and why not sleeping) at a count’s castle, where its owner of old, a general, used to host Russian czars, sounds irresistible, doesn’t it? The small castle is freshly renovated. The tall ceilings and doors create a majestic impression in spite of the fact that the dimensions describe rooms rather than halls. The stage is set by a walk in the vicinity of the manor, the park and the waterfall. Or book a suite for a night, even if just the one. Believe me, it’s an experience fit for a czar! The castle restaurant, Cher Ami, serves the classics of French and Russian cuisine, along with a good selection of champagnes, from Non Vintage Pierre Paillard to 2004 Perrier-Jouët Belle Epoque, and vodkas from the local Silver Swan to the exclusive Beluga Transatlantic Race. To complement the grandiose atmosphere, the food is (likely intentionally) discreet. It seeks, and manages, to please everyone. It does not strive to be the primary reason to visit, but it adds an elegant flavour to the entire experience. The service takes a slow rhythm and reminds those in inappropriate haste about the quality of these moments. The selection of alcohol-free drinks is scant: this place celebrates the customs of the halcyon days of yore and turns away from the freshest fashions.
