Ööbiku – a restaurant and a chef’s summer home in one
Ööbiku is a rare type of restaurant in Estonia. The best raw ingredients in Estonia are produced in farms, yet there are only two farm restaurants in Estonia that would refer to these ingredients in their original form as restaurant food.
One of such restaurants is Ööbiku – a place originally purchased by Ööbiku’s head chef to serve as his summer home. Right away, during the first summer in his new summer home, Chef Ants Uustalu realised how much quality raw ingredients people were producing in the village of Kuimetsa alone. They were doing it mainly for their own use but some was always left over. Ööbiku Gastronomy Farm now uses these leftovers to prepare some delicious meals. The restaurant has a single fixed menu. It also serves dinner for everyone at the same time.
It is not always easy to find Ööbiku in the midst of the forests of Rapla County, but the journey there alone is worth a visit to the restaurant. Ööbiku is located less than a one-hour drive from Tallinn but during that drive, you will see Estonian rural life in all of its authenticity.
