Stenhus – a bold experimenter

1. March 2017

Restaurant Stenhus is located in the luxurious Schlössle Hotel in Tallinn Old Town. It is a charming medieval building that reflects the historic style of Russian merchants in the capital city. Stenhus welcomes its guests with a friendly staff and a warming fire in the fireplace – it would be difficult to feel more relaxed.

Cucumber salad with whitefish roe seems to enjoy itself in its mild state and makes for a fresh pair with the citric Hennessy Apple cocktail. It is good to see that a new and unexpected approach has been taken with a simple ingredient such as cucumber, and it has been made to glow tastefully.

Estonia is a country of mushrooms and picking mushrooms is much esteemed in our country. This is why it is lovely to see morel in the menu. Presented in a creamy cognac sauce, they have a wild and mysterious feel to them, just as Estonia. This dish casts a spell and for a moment, takes you to an Estonian forest at the end of summer. Pairing Hennessy Apple with hearty and spicy morel is an excellent choice – the sourish cocktail adds even more summery freshness to the pair.

Their dessert displays character because they have hidden nothing less or more than Cheddar cheese in chocolate. This combination makes the taste buds jump in joy. Together with the creamy honey-flavoured Hennessy Tallinn, a fine combination is achieved.

Stenhus is the harmony between classical and modern. As a bold experimenter, this is a place you will remember.
